Application of general magic principles, such as tracing magical activity through the simplest channels, and the tasking of a young chocobo (called Alexei) to assist in observing and locating had allowed the young magus to find his friend.
Though they hadn't spoken more than a few words in passing in recent weeks, the heavy air around the wisened king was palpable enough that even someone with senses as dulled as Waver's would notice.

After weeks of watching the mood persist, Waver decided it was time to figure out what was happening. The internal comings and goings of this city were a subject he was still learning. In time, once he memorized names, he might periodically check the Wall everyone spoke of.
For now, however, he armed himself with a collection of books, his bird, and his general good will. He didn't wish ill on anyone in this world, and Regis knew about Rider-- knew about the man a deep part of his subconscious desperately wanted to be worthy of following.
It was only right that he approach Regis at his home, even if it was unannounced.
